The small town of Independence, Iowa is the lifelong home of Evelyn Briggs. Her oldest daughter Kess has come home at the request of her sister Jo, who is concerned for their mother's emotional health. Youngest sister Sherry, salty-tongued and amoral, wants only to finish high school so she can leave home for good. A powerful study of a family divided against itself by a Tony and Pulitzer-nominated author, the play blends humor and telling insights as the characters probe for the personal truths they desperately need to reveal and accept.
